Emergency Appeal
A humanitarian crisis is unfolding across Iraq. According to the United Nations, 1.2 million Iraqis have fled for their lives in recent weeks, driven from their homes by war. Those who stayed behind have faced violence, forced religious conversion, sexual violence, torture and execution. For the families who escaped the fighting, the struggle to survive is far from over. Newly arrived families in host communities urgently need clean water, food, sanitation, medical treatment, shelter, blankets, clothing and cooking utensils. Yet this is only the beginning. As the crisis drags on, longer-term support is essential to stop conditions worsening — including vaccinations to prevent epidemics, medication for chronic health conditions and schooling for children. AMAR is one of the few organisations working on the ground in Iraq to help ordinary families forced to flee, and we are doing what we can. But we can only deliver this aid with your help.
Our Approach
AMAR has built a model that relies solely on local people to deliver projects in developing countries. With around 1,700 Iraqis working in Iraq when this crisis began, AMAR is uniquely positioned to deliver aid effectively. As a partner of the United Nations agencies coordinating the response, AMAR can get aid to the right place at the right time for those who need it most. AMAR has supported Iraqi refugees since 1991 and is committed to standing with Iraqis until assistance is no longer needed. Right now, the immediate need is great and urgent.
