WHY PARTNER WITH AMAR?
AMAR supports some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable communities. Yet, unlike most international charities, nearly all of our work is delivered by local people using local resources. That means we spend money more efficiently while building capacity and strengthening the local economy exactly where it is needed most. Our London office has only 12 full-time staff, who support more than 2,000 colleagues in Iraq and Lebanon. Thanks to this lean structure, 88p of every pound donated goes directly to helping hundreds of thousands of people across the Middle East, while the remaining 12p covers administration and fundraising for the next pound. AMAR's local teams work alongside community leaders to design activities that are culturally sensitive and suited to local needs, which helps us earn broad approval and acceptance quickly. We also work closely with national and local governments so that authorities have a stake from the outset. This strengthens the provision and delivery of basic services and prepares the way for those services to eventually pass into government management and ownership. AMAR assists everyone in need but places particular focus on women and children, who are often the most deserving and hardest to reach. We help them become both beneficiaries and service deliverers, contributing to female empowerment at the local level. AMAR believes that a healthy, educated population is better placed to develop economically and socially over the long term, which in turn reduces reliance on international aid and assistance.
