Zain: A Leader in Corporate Social Responsibility
Zain and AMAR are joining forces to meet the urgent need for health care and education following decades of neglect and decline in the health and education infrastructure. This generous financial backing allows AMAR to keep helping hundreds of thousands of men, women and children, and to develop and launch new initiatives, such as AMAR's latest project to combat tuberculosis in Iraq alongside UNDP and the Ministry of Health.
The Impact of Our Partnership
Over 28,000 families received monthly visits from AMAR Women Health Volunteers, and 2,700 health education sessions took place in schools over the year. Thousands of children, university students and adults attended weekly or daily classes covering everything from literacy and numeracy to IT, English, civic participation, human rights and the rule of law. 1,000 widows received targeted skills training so they could start businesses or otherwise find ways to support themselves and their families. In 2012 AMAR provided almost 700,000 health consultations, including roughly 80,000 specialist child care consultations and around 100,000 vaccinations for children and pregnant women.
This partnership shows how corporate support can translate into real change on the ground. By combining Zain's financial backing with AMAR's on-the-ground programmes, the collaboration reaches families, students and communities across Iraq with health care, education and skills training.
