AMAR's Board of Trustees is made up of special advisors on subjects ranging from culture

and science, technology and eHealth, to archeology and Middle Eastern policy.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne is the Executive Chairman of AMAR. She 
co-founded AMAR, starting work in 1991, before the organisation was formed in 1992. She is also a sitting Peer in the House of Lords. Baroness Nicholson is the Founder President of the Caine Prize for African Writing, and a Founder Member of the Booker Prize Foundation and of the Booker Prize for Russian Fiction.

He has studied, worked and trained in the UK, and Australia, including St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London, and Jesus College, Oxford. Dr Rowsell trained in plastic surgery in East Grinstead, Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton. He was appointed Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Guy’s Hospital, and St. Thomas Hospital in 1989, where he specialised in the management of cleft lip and palate. Dr Rowsell retired in 2005, but remains involved in AMAR’s work.

She is a World Health Organisation Envoy for Health as a Tool for Peace and

and Development. She served as a member of the House of Commons from 1987 to 1997, when she was created a Life Peer in the House of Lords. She later represented the South East region of England in the European Parliament as an MEP from 1999 to 2009, where she was Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with Iraq and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and subcommittee on human rights. In January 2014, Baroness Nicholson was made Trade Envoy to Iraq for the UK.

Dr Anthony Richard Rowsell, DPhil FRCS FRACS (Plastic)

Dr. Anthony Richard Rowsell, DPhil FRCS FRACS (Plastic), is AMAR’s co-founder along with Baroness Nicholson. Dr Rowsell is also a fellow of Harris Manchester College, Oxford, where he conducts research into the management of battle casualties on the Western Front in the First World War. 
He is also a member of the telemedicine 
team computing department at 
Buckingham University.

Professor Fouad Efram Hareth Boustany

Hareth Fouad Efram Boustany is a Professor of Archaeology and History of the Civilizations at the Lebanese University, Beirut, and was Head of the Department for Arts and Archaeology there until December 2007. Professor Boustany is a member of the executive councils of the Lebanese National UNESCO Commission and Lebanese National Heritage Foundation. He is also a visiting Professor of Phoenician Archaeology and History of Ancient Civilisations at the University of St-Esprit-Kaslik and the University of St. Joseph. He has previously been a consultant and head of the archaeology department of Solidere, The Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut Central District. Professor Boustany took a doctorate in Oriental History and Archaeology at the Sorbonne, Paris, and is most noted for his time as curator of the Beirut National Museum from 1970 to 1979.

Theodore Zeldin

 Dr. Theodore Zeldin has worked with AMAR since 1997.Having completed his studies from London University’s Birkbeck College at the age of 17, Dr Zeldin went on to attend Christ Church Oxford.  While at Oxford, he helped to build up St Antony’s College as the postgraduate centre for international studies, and was Dean of the college for 13 years.

Damon Parker

Damon Parker is AMAR’s legal advisor and has been working with AMAR since 2012.Specialising in the field of contentious trusts, probate and tax matters, Mr Parker also works specifically with charities, trust companies and private individuals engaged in trust variations and disputes. He has worked extensively in all aspects of court work involving trusts and tax schemes, both in the UK and offshore.

Dr Kazem Behbehani PhD, FRCPath (UK)

Dr Kazem Behbehani, PhD, FRCPath (UK) has worked with AMAR since 2005. Having worked with the World Health Organisation since 1990, he became WHO Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Governing Bodies in 2003. Christopher Straub

Christopher Straub is the Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary of AMAR U.S. and has been working with AMAR since 2012.Mr Straub worked on Middle Eastern policy at the U.S the Department of Defense for the Middle East between June 2002 and February 2009, and most recently as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East. From 1988 to 2001

he served on the staff of the U.S Senate as staff designee on the Select Committee on Intelligence for Senator Ernest F Hollings (D-SC) and Senator J. Robert Kerrey (D-NE), Minority Staff Director of the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and chief of staff to Senator Kerrey. Mr Straub retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988 after serving 22 years in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer and specialist in the Arab world. He has received the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. His military awards include the Silver Star and Legion of Merit - some of the highest awards for valour and meritorious conduct in the United States Armed Forces and United States Department of Defense. Mr Straub studied English at Columbia College and earned his Masters in Middle Eastern History at the University of Kansas. He is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute (Syrian Arabic Course) the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, as well as the National War College.

member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s Ethics Review Committee. Dr Behbehani’s involvement in environmental and health issues, health management, eHealth and eLearning has led him to work with AMAR. He has written more than 100 scientific publications, and received several awards and recognitions for his work.

Mr Parker is recommended in the 2011 edition of Chambers & Partners as one of the leading practitioners in his field. He attended the University of St Andrews and now works as part of the Harcus Sinclair law firm.

In 1974, Dr Zeldin’s book, History of French Passions, won the Wolfson Prize, Britain’s top historical award for literature. Dr Zeldin’s most celebrated writings have been translated into 24 languages, he has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, a Commander on the Légion d’Honneur and a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of France. He is also a member of the BBC Brains Trust, an informational radio and television programme.
